Often the findings that are published are of a theoretical nature and as such will not play a major role in your studies. That being said there are plenty of resources that are happy to quote sources and how they got to their findings, these are actually often associated with universities themselves.

Keeping notes on paper inside the book is also a great way for you to memorize certain sections for later exams and term papers. Although the price of books is sometimes in the $100 plus range, speak to your local school, college or university and see if they cannot organize you a discounted rate through one of their suppliers. It can never hurt to ask.
